These three terms constantly generate confusion. Abdominoplasty and “tummy tuck” are the same procedure: skin resection, muscle repair, and abdominal remodeling. Lipectomy, on the other hand, refers specifically to removing excess skin and fat, without necessarily including muscle plication. The difference matters because the surgical scope, and the results, change depending on what your body needs.
There is also the mini abdominal dermolipectomy, which is a less extensive version. I reserve it for patients who only need to correct excess skin in the lower abdomen, with a shorter incision.

Two frequent scenarios in my consultation, and each one has distinct particularities.
After pregnancies, especially multiple or twin pregnancies, it is common to find rectus abdominis diastasis, skin that has lost elasticity, and changes in fat distribution. In many cases, these patients are not overweight. They are slim women whose abdomen simply does not respond to exercise because the problem is structural.
After massive weight loss (for example, 40 kg after bariatric surgery), the scenario is different: there is more remaining skin, greater flaccidity, and sometimes the tissue quality is more compromised. - Nutritional status and eating habits.

- Pre-existing medical conditions (diabetes, hypertension, coagulation problems).
- Realistic expectations: if someone comes looking for a result that is not achievable with their anatomy, I prefer to explain why and explore alternatives.
Personalized assessment: every abdomen is different
Two patients with the same weight may need completely different surgeries. One may require only a mini dermolipectomy; another, a full abdominoplasty with abdominal marking and fat transfer. Everything depends on skin quality, the amount of subcutaneous fat, the degree of diastasis, and bone structure.
That is why the consultation, in-person or virtual for international patients, is the moment where candidacy, risks, and surgical plan are defined. Not before.
